The General Surgery Department consists of two Surgical Units, each with 50 beds consisting of one male and female ward with additional Intensive Care Unit, The staff of Surgical Department caters to the teaching requirements of Lahore Medical & Dental College for both MBBS (3rd year, 4th year & Final year) and BDS classes in the subject of Surgery to impart professional knowledge and clinical skills. Teaching assignment includes undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and College of Physician & Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP) accredits the unit for training of postgraduate students in General Surgery.

 

The department is providing surgical services to the community of the area where all types of major and minor surgical procedures are carried out with indoor and inpatient facilities including emergency 7 days a week. All kinds of major surgical procedures which are done in tertiary referral centres are being successfully undertaken at GTTH such as thyroidectomies, Whipple’s procedures and hapatic surgery.

It is encouraging to note, increase in workload in OPD as well as bed occupancy and surgical services to the community in the rural population.

The Operation Theater Assistants classes for paramedics had been planned and started in January, 2004.

The department has started Package Surgery to facilitate the deserving patients by drastically cutting down the charges for surgical procedure.
