With the appointment of a Professor the Paediatric Department was upgraded as full fledged professional teaching unit in February 2000. The department consists of well-established indoor and an out patient sections.

Nursery/NICU was commissioned in December 2003 with 20 cots, four incubators and few warmers initially. Further gadgets i.e. pulse-oximeter, cardiac monitor and two ventilators were added to upgrade the Nursery to its present status. Now a well-established Nursery and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is available for the much needed neonates of the locality. Between 300 -350 patients are examined in outpatients department every week, and turn over of the patients is quite satisfactory.

The Paediatric ward consists of 35 beds, having 110-130 admissions per month. The admitted patients are cared for by experienced and qualified doctors along with trained nurses.

The Paediatric Department is providing emergency services 24 hours a day and365 days a year. All the neonates delivered in the hospital are examined by the Paediatric department staff and those who need special care are shifted to the nursery.

The department is conducting Lactation Management courses, Diarrhoea Training courses and ARI control programme. This helps the medical officers of all the departments in understanding the common problems of the children and their management.

Weekly clinical meetings are held in the ward where the internees prepare the cases and present them for discussion. All the teaching and hospital staff participate in these meetings. This helps the medical officers in their postgraduates studies.
