Pak OrthoCon 2009 at GTTH
Pak OrthoCon 2009 is set for March 11 to March 13, 2009 at Ghurki Trust Teaching Hospital. It is the major annual event arranged by Pakistan Orthopaedic Association. It includes scientific sessions on different Orthopaedic sub-specialities in which Orthopaedic surgeons from around the world participate. Latest Diagnostic Technology at Gynae Department GTTH
Colposcopy is recently started in Ghurki Trust Teaching Hospital. It is donated by Lahore Medical & Dental College to GTTH.
Colposcope is a binocular microscope which allows a magnified visual inspection of the cervix (upto 10-60x magnification).
Colposcopy is a microscopic evaluation of the cervix to identify most suspicious areas for directed, diagnostic cervical biopsies. It is done in cases of:

This is more accurate method than biopsies performed by gross visualization alone.

Launching of TB DOTS at GTTH
Tuberculosis (T.B) is an old disease but still health workers all over the world find it hard to control. World Health Organization (WHO) has declared tuberculosis as a global emergency. Pakistan ranks sixth among the countries with highest burden of tuberculosis in the world. It contributes about 43% of tuberculosis burden in Eastern Mediterranean region. About 2,69,000 cases of TB occur every year in Pakistan. Commitment to the control of TB is now high at all levels. At the national level, policy makes have demonstrated their commitment by making TB Control a high priority.
The recommended strategies include diagnosis with sputum smears and community-based TB care; with direct observation of treatment and short course drugs (DOTS).
Ghurki Trust Teaching Hospital is the first private tertiary care hospital in Punjab where TB DOTS programme is launched. The launching ceremony was held on August 15, 2006 in the auditorium of GTTH. Mr. Mohsin Bilal, Chairman Ghurki Trust Teaching Hospital, was Chief Guest at the occasion.

Ch. Khalid Javaid Ghurki, Nazim Wagha Town, Prof. Dr. Shaheena Asif, Chairperson LM&DC, eminent faculty members and a large numbers of doctors and students of LM&DC also attended the ceremony.
Dr. Darakshan Badar, National Programme Manger TB DOTS, presented a comprehensive progress report consisting of objectives, strategy and tips to make this programme successful.
Dr. Abrar Ilahi Malik, Medical Superintendent GTTH presented a brief introduction, working, and efforts of staff and administration to launch the TB DOTS program in this hospital.
Prof. Dr. Amer Aziz, Head department of Orthopaedics and Spinal Surgery addressed audience, the young doctors and medical students, being “voice of tomorrow” to come forward and to eradicate TB from Pakistan.
Ch. Khalid Javaid Ghurki, Nazim Wagha Town inaugurated this programme by giving anti-tuberculous medicine to a patient.
